Married since 1987, Gary retired from commercial truck driving a few years after Karen started the business in 1992 — almost as a fluke! With a “first day of issue” postage art item for Gary and quilt covers as gifts for their moms, the time and expense of having them matted and framed seemed too much. Karen said, “I can do that!” — and bought a $99 mat cutter. Soon she was hooked on framing and postage art.
Ten years, four mat cutters, and lots of framing equipment, later, Art & Frame Connection has stepped into the computer age with new computerized equipment, extending the shop’s creative potential well beyond the postage stamp art and collectibles with which it started. A whole new product line was also added to their business: Picture Block mats!
For about a decade, Karen and Gary travelled to arts and crafts shows from their home state of Texas to as far afield as the east coast. They did about 30 shows a year, then ended each year in a seasonal retail store. In 2003 they retired from the travelling routine to establish Art & Frame Connection as a permanent (year-round) retail outlet in Houston’s Memorial City Mall.
Karen and Gary take pride in the fact that Art & Frame Connection handles all production in-house, allowing them to ensure premium quality and prompt service on every order. They still love to travel and meet new people (many of whom become faithful Art & Frame Connection customers), and they look forward to serving you!
